| Ted Nugent House Of Blues - 26 August 1998 I have been to a LOT of shows at the House of Blues here in Orlando, Florida, but the Ted Nugent show Wednesday night was one of the best I have ever seen there. Ted used everything in the rock & roll handbook during the show. Tons of smoke (often obscuring the stage completely), lights, strobes, flaming arrows, bonfires on stage, feedback, great guitar playing and of course Ted's unique personality. For all the good things about the HOB, they sure can screw things up. The doors were supposed to open at 7:30 and it being a sold out show, there were a LOT of people there. The doors didn't open until 8:45 and it took a half hour to get all the people inside. Needless to say the opening act was canned and Ted came on stage on schedule at 9:30 for a rocking two hour and ten minute set. Ted was in fine form, and really is not afraid to say exactly what he thinks. There was some guy there with a red laser light who kept flashing it the stage. Ted threatened to "shove it up your ass if you don't stop playing with it". Needless to say...the light was not seen the rest of the night. Ted played a bunch of his hits, Paralyzed, Cat Scratch Fever, Great White Buffalo, Stranglehold, Wang Tang Pootang along with bits a pieces from Sam and Dave, Jimmy Hendrix, Red House, and various other blues songs to play homage to the blues. He also called the HOB the "Mall" and kept making fun of Disney. I assume that he won't be back again at this venue. (it was really funny tho!!!) One of the special songs of the evening was dedicated to "Handgun Control, Sara Brady, Janet Reno, Bill Clinton, Al Gore and all those other "assholes" in Washington DC". It was appropriately named "Kiss My Ass". Ted definitely lets you know where on the political spectrum he sits. There is nothing shy about this guy. The encore was "Great White
Buffalo" and Ted came out in full Indian headdress
with a flaming campfire in the middle of the stage, and
finished the night by shooting a flaming arrow across the
stage into a guitar target. |
