John Petrucci stopped by Thourghbred Music In Orlando Florida to show off Ibanez Guitars and play a few tunes. He wound up playing and answering questions for about an hour and a half and gave everyone their moneys worth. (The clinic was FREE!! which is one of Murf's favorite prices!!!) He played several selections from the new Dream TheaterCD along with a couple of short tunes that will show up on some SEGA games. Along the way he made interesting comments, such as that while writing songs, they will name sections of the songs afterthe band that influenced that particular section. (i.e. The Pink Floyd section, The Metallica Section, etc) He also said that the band writes to fit rheir own style rather than staying with the "trends" (grung, alternative..and all that crap!!) His guitar is an Ibanez (suprise!) with dimarzio pickups (Air Norton in the neck and Steve model in the bridge) and he prefers Mesa Boogie amplifiers with a variety of stomp boxes with the tried and true crybaby wah. He has been playing guitar for 18 years. Dream Theater is planning a southeast swing during their next tour.
